On 2 July 2026, an expert workshop entitled “Voluntary Recovery of Wrecks and Sunken Objects and the Management of Abandoned Vessels” was held in Split. The workshop was organised by the Directorate for Navigation Safety of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure in cooperation with the Adriatic Institute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The workshop was held at the Milesi Palace of the Institute for Scientific and Artistic Work in Split.
The workshop was led by Vesna Skorupan Wolff, PhD and Adriana Vincenca Padovan, PhD who presented the conditions for granting the status of an honest finder of a wreck or sunken object, as well as the procedures applicable in such cases. The workshop brought together representatives of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, harbour master’s offices, port authorities, concessionaires managing special-purpose ports, local and regional self-government units, and other stakeholders involved in the management of the maritime domain.
