The European Commission has presented new strategies for European Union ports and the maritime industry, aimed at strengthening the sector’s competitiveness, security, and sustainability.
The strategies cover ports, shipping, and shipbuilding—sectors that are crucial for trade, economic growth, and the EU’s energy and defence security. Particular emphasis is placed on the energy transition, digitalisation, port security, and the development of clean technologies in maritime transport. The plans also foresee encouraging investment and innovation, as well as strengthening the resilience of Europe’s maritime value chain in the face of growing global competition. The ultimate goal is to ensure that European ports remain key logistics and energy hubs while supporting Europe’s green and digital transition.
