The 7th Adriatic Maritime Law Conference (AMLC) was hosted by the Maritime Law Association of Slovenia in Isola from 9th to 11th April 2026. The AMLC facilitates collaboration among the national maritime law associations of the Adriatic coastal states. Since its inception in 2016, which brought together maritime law associations of Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy, the Montenegrin Maritime Law Association joined in 2024, and this year, the inclusion of the newly established Albanian Maritime Law Association was celebrated.

As with previous editions, this conference served as a vital forum for discussing pressing maritime law issues pertinent to the Adriatic region. It was also an excellent opportunity to reconnect with old friends and forge new relationships.

Božena Bulum, PhD in co-authorship with Professor Goran Jelić Mrčalić, PhD and Associate Professor Marija Pijaca, PhD presented a paper entitled Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Aquaculture Regulations in the European Union – The Croatian Context. The authors analyzed the three-tier regulatory framework governing the catch and farming (fattening) of Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) at the level of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, the European Union, and the Republic of Croatia. Particular emphasis was placed on the economic importance of this species for Croatian fisheries, especially in the aquaculture segment, which represents one of the key sectors of the national fisheries industry.

Associate Professor Adriana Padovan in co-authorship with Professor Dorotea Ćorić, PhD presented on the topic of “FuelEU Maritime Regulation with a Focus on Seaports.” The presentation provided an overview of the FuelEU Maritime Regulation within the context of the legal framework for decarbonization in the maritime transport industry, highlighting its key objectives, scope, basic principles, and essential milestones for implementation in seaports. This presentation was prepared within the scope of the project “Povezivanje Hrvatske: Unapređenje održivog, zelenog i uključivog transporta kroz učinkovitu pravnu regulaciju / Connecting Croatia: Advancing Sustainable, Green, and Inclusive Transport through Effective Legal Regulation (uniri-iz-25-99)” (uniri-iz-25-23), funded by European Union – NextGenerationEU via the Croatian National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026, in conjunction with the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law Programme Financing.

Participation in the conference once again confirmed the importance of international cooperation in the development and advancement of legal solutions in the field of maritime law, with particular emphasis on the challenges of sustainability and the management of marine resources.
