As a member of the Adriatic Institute, Adriana Vincenca Padovan, PhD participated as an invited speaker at the workshop “Liability and Compensation Regimes for Damage Resulting from Maritime Casualties”, held on 26 and 27 November 2025 in Zagreb. The workshop was jointly organised by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure and ATRAC – Adriatic Training and Research Centre as part of the Adriatic Sensitive Areas Protection – mechanism (ASAP) project.
Dr. Padovan took part in the workshop together with Professor Dorotea Ćorić, as part of the CroConnect – Connecting Croatia project, an institutional research project of the University of Rijeka funded through the Recovery and Resilience Facility and NextGenerationEU, led by Associate Professor Iva Tuhtan Grgić.
Prof. Dorotea Ćorić delivered a presentation on the international civil liability regimes for shipowners in cases of marine pollution by oil and other hazardous substances, as well as their implementation in Croatian legislation.
Dr Adriana Vincenca Padovan delivered a presentation on the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks (2007) and its implementation in the Republic of Croatia, with particular emphasis on regulatory challenges and practical issues related to the removal of hazardous wrecks.
The workshop provided an important platform for exchanging knowledge and practical experience on shipowners’ liability and the protection of the marine environment, with a strong focus on safeguarding sensitive marine areas in the Adriatic.
