PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • He previously held academic positions at Cardiff University and the University of East Anglia; and visiting positions at universities in Europe, Scandinavia, Far East and North America
  • From 1989-2000 he was an Adjunct Professor on the University of Detroit Mercy London Law Programme and also Director of the Lloyd’s Maritime Training Seminars
  • In 2011-2012 he held the Francqui Chair at the University of Leuven and is currently visiting professor at Gothenburg University, which conferred on him an Honorary Doctorate of Law in 2000
  • He has also lectured at the World Maritime University and the IMO International Maritime Law Institute in Malta
  • In 2022 he delivered the Professor William Tetley lecture at the Institute of Maritime Law, Tulane University, USA
