PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

He previously held academic positions at Cardiff University and the University of East Anglia; and visiting positions at universities in Europe, Scandinavia, Far East and North America
From 1989 – 2000 he was an Adjunct Professor on the University of Detroit Mercy London Law Programme and also Director of the Lloyd’s Maritime Training Seminars
In 2011 – 2012 he held the Francqui Chair at the University of Leuven and is currently visiting professor at Gothenburg University, which conferred on him an Honorary Doctorate of Law in 2000
He has also lectured at the World Maritime University and the IMO International Maritime Law Institute in Malta
In 2022 he delivered the Professor William Tetley lecture at the Institute of Maritime Law, Tulane University, USA
