Adriana Padovan delivered two specialist online seminars this month to postgraduate students on the International Maritime Law LLM/MSc at the University of Strathclyde Law School.
As part of the module Admiralty Law: Contracts and Transactions, Adriana led a seminar on “Shipbuilding and Law”, offering a practical insight into the structure and negotiation of modern shipbuilding contracts. Drawing on English law and standard forms such as the SAJ Form, BIMCO NEWBUILDCON and the Norwegian SHIP25, the session examined key clauses, risk allocation, transfer of title, termination, and dispute scenarios in the context of the dominant East Asian shipbuilding markets.
She also delivered a seminar on “Insurance Contract in Maritime Law”. This seminar introduced students to the principles and practice of marine insurance, including the role of the London market, Lloyd’s and P&I Clubs, as well as core concepts under English law such as insurable interest, utmost good faith, insured risks and common claim types.
These guest seminars directly support the programme’s aim to equip students with the skills to “recognise and respond to the general issues appearing in maritime contract and transactions law” and to apply them in practice.
