Traditionally, on the feast of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of seafarers and shipowners, the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure organizes the Maritime and Inland Navigation Days in order to highlight the importance of the Republic of Croatia’s rich maritime and riverine tradition and to recognize individuals and institutions for their exceptional contribution to the development and international recognition of maritime and inland navigation. At the Ceremonial Academy held on 3 December 2025 in Čepin, awards and recognitions were presented to all those who made a special contribution to the development of maritime and inland navigation in the Republic of Croatia and worldwide.

The Adriatic Institute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts is this year’s recipient of the Award for Contribution to the Advancement of Maritime Science and Education. The award was accepted on behalf of the Adriatic Institute by Vesna Skorupan Wolff, PhD, Scientific Advisor with tenure and Director of the Adriatic Institute.
