“International Maritime and Transport Law Course – Transport Law de lege ferenda 2023” held at the Inter-University Centre (IUC) in Dubrovnik from 11th to 16th September 2023. The Maritime Law Week was inaugurated on Monday, September 11, 2023, with a scientific conference titled Maritime Law Colloquium: “In Memoriam Prof. Hrvoje Kačić”.
The ceremonial speeches were delivered by the Executive Secretary Nada Bruer (Inter-University Centre), Assoc. Prof. Gordan Stanković, PhD (Croatian Maritime Law Association) and Assoc. Prof. Igor Vio, PhD (University of Rijeka, Faculty of Maritime Studies).
The aim of the Course was to provide to the participants the analysis of the latest international and national regulations in the field of maritime and transport law, with prominent lecturers from various Croatian academic institutions (Adriatic Institute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, University of Zagreb, University of Rijeka, University of Zadar and University of Split) as well as a number of cooperative higher education institutions from abroad (University of Bologna, City University – London, College of Charleston, International Maritime Law Institute, Jaume I-University, Jimei University, Kyushu University, Nicolaus Copernicus University, University of Ljubljana, University of Oslo, University of Vigo and World Maritime University).
The course was held in the English language.and was dedicated to participants enrolled in advanced degrees of legal studies (graduate and postgraduate students), junior practitioners and law officials from international organizations, state administration, courts of law and public attorney offices, and to young professionals from shipping, transport, insurance and related industries who were given the opportunity to gain new knowledge and to compare the legal regulations of different countries through classes of outstanding university professors and renowned maritime law experts, and also to participate in panel discussions on proposed amendments of the relevant maritime conventions.
Among lecturers of the Course, there were also employees of the Adriatic Institute: Božena Bulum, PhD, held lecture on the topic “Regulation of the Provision of Port Services in the Republic of Croatia: the Business Practice of the Croatian Ports and Competition Law”, Assoc. Prof. Adriana Vincenca Padovan, PhD, held lecture on the topic “Inchmaree Clause and the Like: Specificity of Marine Hull” and Irena Nišević, LL.M., held lecture on the topic “Fragmentation of International Law in Regard to the Protection of the Marine Environment”.
