The Faculty of Law, University of Split, and the Adriatic Institute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, several Croatian ministries and with the support of the Croatian Maritime Law Association, will host the 5th International Scientific Conference on Maritime Law (ISCML) in Split, Croatia, from April 9th to 11th, 2025.
This year’s conference, titled “Modern Challenges of Marine Navigation,” will bring together renowned academics and practitioners of maritime law from around the globe to discuss and analyse the latest developments and pressing issues in the field.
The conference features several internationally renowned maritime law experts as keynote speakers:
Professor Martin Davies (Tulane University)
Dr. Jan-Erik Pötschke (Ahlers & Vogel Rechtsanwälte PartG mbB)
Dr. Ann Fenech (Fenech & Fenech Advocates; President of the CMI)
Professor Norman A. Martínez Gutiérrez (IMO International Maritime Law Institute)
Rhidian Thomas, Ph.D. (Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law, Swansea University)
It will cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Decarbonization in shipping
- Geopolitical challenges to the maritime space
- Limitation of liability for maritime claims
- Marine pollution
- New technologies and autonomous vessels
- Maritime labour market challenges
- Transport law, and more.
Experts from Italy, Malta, the United Kingdom, the USA, Germany, Canada, Norway, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Turkey, Slovenia, Serbia, and Croatia will present their research and insights.
The ISCML Split 2025 promises to be a significant event for the maritime law community, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing to address the evolving challenges of maritime and transport law.
