class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-icon-trigger\"><\/span><\/button><\/div><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel kt-accordion-panel-hidden\"><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel-inner\">\n<p>The Adriatic Institute\u2019s library is a specialized solo-library forming a part of the Institute as a scientific research unit of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and belonging to the network of the Academy\u2019s libraries. The library primarily fulfils the needs of the Adriatic Institute&#8217;s employees, but it is also open to the external users, e.g. students, scientists and researchers from other institutions, as well as all those whose professional interest is related to the activity of the Institute, primarily to maritime law and the international law of the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The communication with the library is possible through email or phone, and directly with the librarian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the main tasks of the library are systematic building and professional processing of its fund, as well as searching the relevant databases and similar forms of support to the scientific research of maritime law and international law of the sea. Occasionally, the library participates in relevant promotional and educative activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The library\u2019s fund consists of three collections: monographs; periodical publications; and documentation. The materials are predominantly printed, however nowadays the efforts are taken to increase the number of digital publications, and scanning is being done continuously. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the first year after the library was established in 1949, the library\u2019s catalogue included about 2,800 units. Over the years, this number has increased to about 33,000 units. In the more recent years, a profiled and more specialized collection has been created consisting of about 16,000 units, whilst another 5,000 units covering the fields of maritime history, economics, and fisheries are archived in the same library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The library\u2019s digital catalogue has been available on the internet since 2002. Since 2020, it has joined the group catalog of all libraries of the Academy (DIZBI.Hazu) on the new Indigo platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current financial situation substantially limits the accessibility of the valuable internet academic databases, however this disadvantage is partly compensated through cooperation and exchange with similar libraries and institutions(database i-Law). Access to databases with a national license through the Electronic Resources Portal for the Croatian academic and scientific community (in the NSK) plays a significant role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The library is also responsible for the inclusion of the Institute&#8217;s journal&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/jadranski-zavod.hazu.hr\/en\/publications\/comparative-maritime-law\/\">Poredbeno pomorsko pravo = Comparative Maritime Law<\/a>&nbsp;in the international and domestic databases and portals (EBSCO, HeinOnline, ERIH Plus, DOAJ, CEEOL, SIS, Hr\u010dak, DIZBI, and others).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The library provides support to the Adriatic Institute in conducting scientific research projects, whilst it also participates in various national projects from the field of library activity (SZI \u2013 System of Scientific Information, CROSBI \u2013 Croatian Scientific Bibliography, DIZBI \u2013 Digital Collection of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-pane kt-accordion-pane kt-accordion-pane-2 kt-pane1085_fc466a-a0\"><div class=\"kt-accordion-header-wrap\"><button class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-header kt-acccordion-button-label-show\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title-wrap\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title\"><strong>Vision and Mission<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-icon-trigger\"><\/span><\/button><\/div><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel kt-accordion-panel-hidden\"><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel-inner\">\n<p><strong>Vision<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide information support for the scientific research activities of the Adriatic Institute and be a partner to related institutions for the needs of education, scientific and professional work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster a collaborative relationship with other libraries by participating in joint projects that lead to equal membership in the network of European libraries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work on the preservation of the total intellectual production of the Adriatic Institute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We strive to serve the scientific and research community by respecting the foundations of the library profession and good professional practice:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meeting the information needs of users<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continuous development and maintenance of the collection (printed and digital) and monitoring of relevant world sources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creative and simple solutions in organization and presentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development and improvement of personal skills through lifelong learning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building relationships of trust with users through quality services and benevolent communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-pane kt-accordion-pane kt-accordion-pane-3 kt-pane1085_602039-ae\"><div class=\"kt-accordion-header-wrap\"><button class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-header kt-acccordion-button-label-show\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title-wrap\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title\"><strong>Access to Library Materials<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-icon-trigger\"><\/span><\/button><\/div><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel kt-accordion-panel-hidden\"><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel-inner\">\n<p>All library materials, both books and non-books, that have been previously inventoried and cataloged can be viewed in the reading room or borrowed under certain conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Journals, newspapers, reference literature (dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.), and documentation are not available for loan. In exceptional cases, permission for photocopying may be requested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Books (textbooks, professional literature) can usually be borrowed for a period of about one month.
